FAQs
Our specialists in Dallas and Greenville provide honest, detailed answers so you feel informed and comfortable before and after surgery.
What is Pterygium Surgery?
It’s a procedure to remove a benign growth from the eye’s surface, often caused by sun, dust, or wind exposure, and restore a healthy, clear ocular surface.
Is the procedure painful?
Most patients report little to no pain. We use numbing drops and, if necessary, mild sedation for your comfort.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients return to normal activities in 3–5 days, with complete healing typically in 4–6 weeks.
What causes a pterygium to come back?
Recurrence can happen if UV exposure continues without protection. We use grafting techniques to reduce this risk significantly.
Will I need stitches?
Depending on the surgical method, we may use tissue glue or fine sutures. Both options are safe and effective.
Am I a good candidate for Pterygium Surgery?
If you have chronic irritation, redness, or vision issues from a pterygium that hasn’t improved with drops or medication, you’re likely a candidate.
