ASA (Advanced PRK) (18+)

What Is ASA (Advanced PRK) (18+)?

ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation), also known as Advanced PRK, is a highly precise, blade-free vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea directly—without creating a flap. Using advanced excimer laser technology, ASA corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It’s an excellent option for patients with thinner corneas or those who may not be suitable for traditional LASIK.

Who It's For

ASA is ideal for adults aged 18 and older with stable vision who want a safe, flap-free solution for reducing or eliminating their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. It’s particularly suited for those with thinner corneas, irregular corneal shapes, or lifestyles that carry a higher risk of eye trauma.

Stable Vision for 12+ Months

Stable Vision for 12+ Months

Candidates should have a stable prescription for glasses or contact lenses for at least one year. This ensures the best long-term results from the procedure.

Age 18 & Above

Age 18 & Above

ASA is FDA-approved for individuals 18 and older, offering younger patients freedom from corrective lenses without the need for a corneal flap.

Healthy Eyes

Healthy Eyes

Candidates should not have major eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, or severe untreated dry eye. A healthy corneal surface is essential for safety and optimal outcomes.

Active or High-Risk Lifestyles

Active or High-Risk Lifestyles

Ideal for athletes, military personnel, or those in professions with a higher risk of eye injury—ASA eliminates the risk of flap-related complications.

How the Procedure Works

Your ASA journey starts with a complete vision assessment, where we evaluate your eye health, corneal thickness, and prescription stability to create a custom treatment plan.

Eye Mapping & Consultation

(15–20 minutes)

Eye Mapping & Consultation

We begin with a detailed diagnostic scan of your eyes using advanced wavefront and topography-guided imaging. This produces a precise 3D map of your cornea to guide your personalized treatment.

Surface Preparation

(5–10 minutes)

Surface Preparation

The thin surface layer of the cornea (epithelium) is gently removed using a specialized solution or laser to access the treatment area—no blade or flap involved.

Vision Correction & Healing

(15–20 minutes)

Vision Correction & Healing

An excimer laser reshapes the cornea to correct your vision. A protective contact lens is placed to aid healing, which is typically comfortable and straightforward.

I am very impressed with West Texas Eye Associates. My first appointment was with Dr. Bradley to determine that I was a candidate for cataract surgery and lenses. I was scheduled for surgery on both eyes with Dr. Shehz. One eye then 2 weeks the other eye. Both surgeries went as planned, were painless, quick and no recovery time. I had no issues seeing and had immediate results. Over the next week it got even better. The front desk staff was very efficient and friendly , the eye techs were all friendly and efficient, and the Doctors are well trained, explained the procedure in detail and provided excellent care. I could not be more pleased with the entire process and my new vision. I highly recommend West Texas Eye Associates to anyone with eye issues.
